Cisco network repair:
Catalyst, ASA and ISR, enterprise and legacy.
Cisco Catalyst is the default enterprise LAN platform across NYC Fortune 1000 offices, law firms, financial services, and K-12. Deployments are heaviest in buildings installed 2008-2018 before cloud alternatives (Meraki, Aruba Central, UniFi) started pulling SMB installs away. We service the full stack: current Catalyst 9000, legacy 2960/3560/3750, ASA firewalls, ISR routers, and classic Aironet wireless.
Where Cisco Catalyst Lives in NYC
Cisco Catalyst is the default enterprise LAN switching platform in NYC Fortune 1000 offices, law firms, financial services, and legacy K-12. Deployment is heaviest in buildings installed between 2008 and 2018, before cloud-managed alternatives started pulling SMB installs away from on-prem IOS.
The service story centers on lifecycle: Smartnet subscriptions gate TAC support, firmware updates, and in some cases feature licenses. Many NYC offices let Smartnet lapse during cost reviews, which is fine until a switch dies and TAC refuses engagement. We service post-Smartnet Catalyst hardware through third-party remarketers and keep systems running without paying for restored contracts.
Admin recovery on orphaned Catalyst gear is a planned-downtime exercise using console ROMmon reset. Nothing cloud-based gates the hardware, which is both a feature (clean recovery) and a limitation (no remote reset).
The Cisco Hardware in NYC
Across modern Catalyst 9000 and legacy enterprise, these are the lines we encounter most.

Catalyst 9000 Series (modern Catalyst)
Current-generation on-prem managed switches running IOS XE with stackable, modular, and fixed form factors.

Catalyst 2960 / 3560 / 3750 (legacy workhorse)
End of sale but installed everywhere. Hundreds of NYC law firms, co-ops, and schools still run these as the primary access layer. The original 2960, 3560 and 3750 no longer receive security patches; the 2960-X receives security fixes only through October 2027.

ISR Routers (Integrated Services Routers)
Branch and small-office routers with voice, VPN, firewall, and WAN termination. The ISR 4000 line is end of sale, with support through November 2028 and the Catalyst 8200 and 8300 as successors. ISR G2 (1900, 2900) is past end of support but still common.

Cisco ASA 5500-X Firewalls
ASA 5500-X firewalls, many still running classic ASA software without the FirePOWER module, in NYC financial and legal offices that never moved to Firepower. All models listed are past Cisco last date of support.

Cisco Aironet and Business Wireless (classic Wi-Fi)
Aironet 1700, 2700 and 3700 (Wave 1) and 1800, 2800 and 3800 (Wave 2) access points with AireOS or 9800 controllers, plus Cisco Business Wireless 140AC and 240AC. Still in many NYC classroom and law firm deployments.
What We See in the Field
Enterprise Cisco failures tend toward lifecycle rather than hardware. These are the recurring calls.
Config lock-in on orphaned switches
IOS configuration frozen behind an unknown enable password with no console access to the previous admin. ROMmon password recovery requires physical presence and planned downtime.
Affects: Catalyst 2960, 3560, 3750, 9200, 9300
Smartnet lapse during critical failure
A switch dies and TAC refuses engagement because Smartnet maintenance lapsed years ago. RMA path closed, forcing third-party remarketer swap or whole-system replacement.
Affects: All Catalyst and ISR hardware
ASA license tier mismatch after replacement
Replacement ASA from a remarketer has a lower license tier or fewer VPN seats than the original and immediately bottlenecks remote work. With the 5500-X past end of support, the lasting fix is usually a move to a current firewall.
Affects: ASA 5506-X through 5516-X
Catalyst 2960 PoE power loss
On older 48-port PoE 2960X and 2960S units we see PoE drop while the switch keeps passing traffic, taking down phones, APs, and cameras at once. The 2960-X has a fixed internal supply; the 2960-XR takes field-replaceable supplies.
Affects: WS-C2960X-48FPS-L, WS-C2960S-48FPS-L, WS-C2960X-24PS-L
Aironet APs will not join a replacement controller
Aironet 1700, 2700 and 3700 (Wave 1) APs are not supported on 9800 controller releases 17.4 through 17.11. A controller swap onto one of those releases leaves them unable to join until the controller runs 17.3 or 17.12 and later.
Affects: Aironet 1700, 2700, 3700, 1800, 2800, 3800 series APs
The Service Specifics
Cisco licensing is complex and lifecycle-driven: Smartnet or DNA Essentials/Advantage subscriptions gate access to TAC support, firmware upgrades, and some feature licenses. Cloud dependencies apply to Catalyst 9000 if DNA Center or Cisco Catalyst Center is deployed, but core switching works fully offline on perpetual licenses.
Admin recovery on orphaned Catalyst gear is a planned-downtime exercise using console ROMmon reset. For ASA 5506-X, 5508-X and 5516-X firewalls we use the ROMMON configuration-register password recovery. For Aironet-era wireless we match the 9800 controller release to the APs on site so they can join.
The End-of-Support Install Base
Legacy Cisco still running widely across NYC.
Catalyst 3550 / 3560 / 3750
Pre-IOS XE L3 switches. End-of-support, still common in NYC K-12 and small law firms. No spare parts available through Cisco; we source via remarketer.
Cisco 7900 Series IP Phones
Pre-Jabber era desk phones (7940, 7960, 7970), running CallManager clusters that nobody wants to upgrade.
Catalyst 4500 / 4500-X Chassis
Modular chassis switches installed in NYC HQ server rooms. Now EoS, line cards hard to source.
Cisco PIX firewalls
Predecessor to ASA, still occasionally found at long-tenured financial firms.
