UniFi Doorbell Repair · NYC + NJ

UniFi Doorbell Repair:
G4 Doorbell Pro, G6 Entry, G6 Pro Entry.

UniFi Protect doorbell is the Ubiquiti answer for sites already running UniFi networking and UniFi Protect cameras. Best fit is single-door residential and small commercial where a Protect console (CloudKey Gen2 Plus, UDM Pro, UDM SE, or UNVR) already exists. For true multi-tenant lobby directories, UniFi is not the answer; we service UniFi where it fits and route multi-tenant work to the right brand.

Where UniFi Doorbell Fits

UniFi Protect doorbell is the entry point to video intercom for sites already standardized on UniFi networking and UniFi Protect. The appeal is single-console admin: one app, one console, no per-door recurring fees. The constraint is that every doorbell registers to a Protect console; the hardware is not standalone, and account recovery goes through Ubiquiti SSO.

The product generations map cleanly. The G4 Doorbell Pro is the premium Protect doorbell that has been shipping for three years, with a 5MP primary camera, 8MP package camera, and integrated front display. The G6 Entry generation announced in September 2025 at CEDIA Denver added UniFi Access as a native integration path, bringing NFC, TouchPass, and face recognition into the doorbell itself. The G6 Pro Entry trim adds a 3-inch touchscreen for building branding, a tenant directory, and PIN-based guest entry.

The honest limitation is multi-tenant. Even with the touchscreen directory on the G6 Pro Entry, Ubiquiti has not shipped a true lobby panel with per-apartment call routing, concierge integration, or dedicated tenant handsets. For NYC buildings with 10 or more units we still steer to ButterflyMX, Aiphone IXG, or Akuvox depending on scale. UniFi doorbell is strong at single-door residential, owner-occupied brownstones, and small commercial where Protect is already in place.

Protect Host Devices and Access Hub (UDM Pro)

Protect Host Devices and Access Hub

UniFi doorbells are not standalone. They register to a UniFi Protect console: CloudKey Gen2 Plus, UDM Pro, UDM SE, UNVR, or UNVR Pro. For the G6 Entry series Access features (NFC, Face ID, PIN entry, Interface Designer), a UniFi Access Hub is also required. We service and migrate the host devices alongside the doorbells.

What We See in the Field

UniFi failures cluster around Protect console state, PoE voltage, Ubiquiti SSO, and the Access Hub pairing on the G6 Entry series.

01

Protect SSO or account lockout

UniFi admin runs through Ubiquiti SSO. A lost password, a locked MFA device, or a terminated email can brick admin access to the Protect console and leave the doorbell visible but unmanageable. Recovery goes through the account owner and Ubiquiti support; we coordinate the recovery and verify local admin is working before leaving the site.

Affects: All UniFi Protect consoles with cloud login enabled

02

G4 Doorbell Pro PoE browning on long cable runs

The G4 Doorbell Pro PoE variant pulls meaningful power. Runs past 70 meters, or old marginal Cat5e, cause intermittent reboots and the doorbell drops from Protect. A PoE++ injector, a cable swap to Cat6, or a shorter run resolves it. We bring a cable certifier for diagnosis.

Affects: UVC-G4-Doorbell-Pro-PoE on long or legacy runs

03

UP-Chime pairing drops after Protect update

The UP-Chime pairs over Wi-Fi through Protect. Major Protect updates have, on more than one occasion, lost the chime pairing and left the doorbell silent inside while still working outside. Repair is a re-pair in the Protect app plus a Wi-Fi credential verify.

Affects: UP-Chime paired with any UVC doorbell

04

Firmware regression on major Protect updates

Ubiquiti ships frequent Protect updates. Occasional regressions have broken doorbell event delivery, chime pairing, or Access Hub integration for a few days until a point release lands. We disable Protect auto-updates on managed sites and stage firmware upgrades during maintenance windows.

Affects: All UVC doorbells on any Protect console

05

UNVR disk failure wipes doorbell event history

The UNVR and UNVR Pro are the Protect storage targets for doorbell event clips. A single-disk UNVR with a failing drive loses the doorbell event history alongside the camera footage. We swap drives, verify RAID or mirror status, and recommend a second disk plus scheduled cloud archive for doorbells used as entry logs.

Affects: UNVR and UNVR Pro with doorbell event recording

The Service Specifics

UniFi doorbells register to UniFi Protect. The G4 Doorbell Pro is Protect-only. The G6 Entry and G6 Pro Entry add UniFi Access as a native second integration, which brings NFC, TouchPass, Face ID, and (on the G6 Pro Entry) a 3-inch touchscreen directory with PIN-based guest entry. Access features need a UniFi Access Hub on site. Protect runs on CloudKey Gen2 Plus, UDM Pro, UDM SE, UNVR, or UNVR Pro.

Admin is a split: cloud login through Ubiquiti SSO for remote access, local login on the Protect console for site admin. Cloud is optional, which matters for buildings that refuse SaaS. For single-door residential, owner-occupied brownstones, and small commercial already running Protect, UniFi doorbell is a strong fit. For a lobby with 10 or more apartments and per-tenant answering, Ubiquiti still has no equivalent; the G6 Pro Entry touchscreen directory is closer than any prior UniFi doorbell but is not a replacement for ButterflyMX, Aiphone IXG, or Akuvox at scale. We service UniFi where it fits and route multi-tenant work to the right brand.

On the G4 to G6 migration path, the G4 Doorbell Pro stays supported for now, so there is no forced upgrade. New installs that want Access integration or the directory touchscreen go to the G6 Entry series. Chime pairings and Protect console admin carry over without re-wiring.

The Legacy Install Base

Pre-G4-Pro UniFi doorbell hardware and the retired UniFi Video platform.

Legacy 01

UVC-G4-Doorbell original (pre-Pro)

First-generation UniFi doorbell. Wi-Fi plus a wired transformer, built-in display, two-way audio. No PoE option and no package camera. Discontinued by Ubiquiti and marked end-of-sale at CDW and other distributors; replaced in the current lineup by UniFi Doorbell Lite. We service these units where they are still in place and plan transitions to the G4 Doorbell Pro or the G6 Entry when the owner is ready.

Legacy 02

UniFi Video platform (decommissioned 2020)

Pre-Protect camera and doorbell management software. Formally decommissioned by Ubiquiti in 2020. Any surviving UniFi Video doorbell install is at end-of-support; we migrate the hardware to a current Protect console and retire the UniFi Video server.

UniFi Doorbell Repair FAQ

Usually one of three things: the doorbell lost its network link (PoE browning, a dead switch port, or a VLAN change), firmware got out of sync with the Protect console, or the Protect console itself had a reconfiguration. We diagnose each layer in order, re-pair the doorbell on the Protect console, and verify PoE voltage at the device. Most sites resolve in one visit.
No. Every UniFi doorbell registers to a Protect console for recording and admin. Options are CloudKey Gen2 Plus, UDM Pro, UDM SE, UNVR, or UNVR Pro. For sites without existing Protect infrastructure, we deploy a Protect console as part of the doorbell install, or we recommend a standalone IP video intercom (DoorBird, Akuvox) that does not require the Protect ecosystem.
Both. The G6 Entry and G6 Pro Entry were announced in September 2025 specifically to bring Protect and Access together on one doorbell. The doorbell registers to a Protect console for video, and the Access Hub handles NFC credentials, TouchPass, Face ID, Interface Designer configuration, and (on the G6 Pro Entry) PIN-based guest entry through the touchscreen directory. We install and service both halves on the same visit.
Depends on what you need. G4 Doorbell Pro stays supported by Ubiquiti and is a complete product for Protect-only sites. The G6 Pro Entry is worth it if you want on-device Access control (NFC, Face ID, PIN entry) or the touchscreen directory. Wiring stays the same, so a swap is a planned visit, not a rewire. We give an honest recommendation after a quick site review; many sites are fine staying on G4 Doorbell Pro.
Not as a primary lobby panel for 10 or more units. The G6 Pro Entry touchscreen directory and PIN entry get closer than any prior UniFi doorbell, but Ubiquiti still has no per-apartment call routing, concierge integration, or tenant handsets. For NYC multi-tenant we recommend ButterflyMX for smartphone-forward buildings, Aiphone IXG when per-apartment handsets are required, or Akuvox for mid-tier new construction. UniFi doorbell is a strong fit for single-door residential, brownstones, and small commercial already running Protect.
Same-day across NYC and NJ when the schedule allows, with priority for sites where the doorbell is a primary entry point. Call 212-347-5400 for the soonest window.
