Uniview Camera System Repair:
IPC2, IPC3, NVR301, ColorHunter.
Uniview is a Chinese commercial IP camera manufacturer, added to the US Commerce Department Entity List in December 2024. Product continues to ship through US commercial distribution and remains legal to buy, install, and operate for private commercial clients. We service the existing NYC install base and provide a migration path to Hanwha, Axis, or Digital Watchdog when client policy requires a pivot. Catalog covered: IPC2 bullets, IPC3 turrets, IPC6 PTZ, ColorHunter night line, NVR301 and NVR501 recorders, EZView and EZStation VMS.
Where Uniview Fits in NYC
Uniview grew into a common NYC commercial camera brand through 2020-2024, with pricing between Hanwha and the budget tier, feature parity on 4K sensors and full-color night, and a VMS story (EZStation plus EZView mobile) that avoids per-camera licensing. Retail interior, apartment lobbies, hallway coverage, and small commercial exteriors are the volume use cases we see across the five boroughs.
The regulatory position changed in December 2024. The US Commerce Department added Zhejiang Uniview Technologies to the Entity List, which restricts US exports to Uniview but does not ban US buyers from installing or operating Uniview product. Uniview is not on the FCC Covered List, and it is not named in NDAA Section 889. Private commercial clients can continue to use the product. Federal, defense, and some critical-infrastructure sites were already excluded on separate grounds.
Service work centers on the 2020-2022 cohort as it ages: IR driver boards, NVR301 power supplies, EZCloud P2P reconnects, and admin password recovery on firmware that blocks older factory-reset paths. For clients whose policies now exclude Entity List vendors, we scope migration to Hanwha Vision, Axis, or Digital Watchdog as part of a planned replacement rather than an emergency swap.
The Uniview Lineup in NYC
Across IPC bullet, IPC turret and dome, IPC6 PTZ, NVR, and VMS.

IPC2 Series Bullet Cameras
Outdoor bullet cameras at 4MP and 8MP, aggressive pricing, standard commercial feature set. The volume install for small commercial exteriors across retail strips, parking lots, and loading areas. Fixed-lens and motorized-zoom variants ship in the same housing family.

IPC3 Series Turret and Dome
Indoor and semi-outdoor turrets and vandal domes. The default pick for retail interior, apartment lobbies, elevator lobbies, and hallway coverage. White housing standard, black available. Smart IR to limit hot-spot blow-out on nearby surfaces.

IPC6 Series PTZ
Pan-tilt-zoom cameras for commercial perimeter and large-footprint coverage. Optical zoom range from 22x through higher-end models. Lower channel price than Hanwha or Axis PTZ at the same sensor spec, which is a frequent reason the brand landed in NYC property management portfolios.

ColorHunter / LightHunter (full-color night)
Uniview's full-color night-vision lines. ColorHunter uses supplemental white light with a larger sensor; LightHunter leans on sensor sensitivity alone to retain color at low lux. Growing in NYC exterior entrances, storefront overviews, and lobbies where identification in color is more useful than IR grayscale.

NVR301 and NVR501 Series
Network video recorders from 4-channel through 64-channel. NVR301 is the small-site workhorse (4, 8, 16 channel). NVR501 handles higher channel counts and sustained bitrates for mid-site commercial, with multiple SATA bays and dual gigabit NICs on the larger models. RAID options on top-tier units.

EZView / EZStation (VMS and mobile)
Uniview's software stack. EZStation is the desktop VMS for client workstations and small guard rooms. EZView is the mobile app for iOS and Android. EZCloud is the P2P service that handles remote viewing without a static public IP. Free, no per-camera fees, no cloud subscription required to run the system.
What We See in the Field
UNV failures cluster around 2020-2022 cohort hardware aging, admin password lockout, and EZCloud reconnect after firmware or ISP changes.
IR LED driver failure on 2020-2022 IPC2 bullets
Early US-market IPC2 bullets had LED driver boards that burn out around year 3-4. Daylight image is fine; night image goes dark. Driver swap is possible on some batches, whole-camera replacement is more common.
Affects: IPC2122LB and IPC2124SB from 2020-2022 batches
NVR301 power supply degradation
Internal switching power supplies on the smaller NVR301 units brown out over time under 24/7 operation. Symptom is random reboots during peak recording, often when motion events spike across many channels at once.
Affects: NVR301-04X, NVR301-08X, 2019-2021 units
Default admin password lockout
Uniview requires a strong admin password on first boot. Many 2020-era installers set it to something they later forgot. Post-2022 firmware blocks the common factory-reset paths, so recovery requires the factory recovery procedure.
Affects: All UNV NVRs with firmware post-2022
ColorHunter white LED driver burnout
Supplemental white-light LEDs on ColorHunter cameras fail earlier than expected when pointed at reflective surfaces (glass storefronts, white walls). Thermal cycling kills the driver. Angle adjustment at install prevents recurrence after replacement.
Affects: IPC2124SB-ADF28KMC-I0, retail storefront installs
EZCloud P2P connection drops
Uniview's cloud P2P service for remote viewing occasionally loses connectivity after firmware updates or ISP changes. Admin console reset of the EZCloud binding, plus confirming outbound UDP, restores it. Static IP on the NVR WAN side is the durable fix.
Affects: Any UNV NVR using cloud remote access
PoE handshake issues with third-party switches
Some IPC2 and IPC3 cameras from 2020-2021 negotiate PoE incorrectly with certain switch brands (Netgear, TP-Link). Camera boots then drops after 30 seconds. Switch port set to legacy-mode PoE, or forcing 802.3af class 3, usually resolves it.
Affects: 2020-2021 IPC2 and IPC3 cameras
The Service Specifics
The US Commerce Department added Zhejiang Uniview Technologies to the Entity List on December 10, 2024. The Entity List restricts US *exports to* Uniview; it does not ban US buyers from installing or operating the product. Uniview is not on the FCC Covered List (unlike Hikvision and Dahua) and is not named in NDAA Section 889. Firmware updates ship through official distribution and the EZCloud infrastructure. US commercial distribution continued through 2025.
Admin password recovery on post-2022 firmware uses the factory recovery procedure with serial number verification and a time-based reset code. We handle the coordination and the physical reset.
Migration guidance when a client policy now excludes Entity List vendors: Hanwha Vision is the closest commercial alternative on SKU breadth and pricing tier (NDAA-compliant, South Korea). Axis Communications is the enterprise premium pick (Sweden). Digital Watchdog is the US-headquartered option. All three carry current firmware and current product lines, and none carry Entity List, FCC Covered List, or Section 889 exposure. We plan these as scheduled replacements, not emergency swaps.
Pre-IPC2 Install Base
Legacy UNV from before the current product naming.
IPC-B series (pre-2020 budget bullets)
Earlier naming scheme bullets with analog HD-TVI variants. We service in place and plan migration paths to current IPC2 series when failure rates make swap-outs more cost-effective than repair.
NVR202 (pre-NVR301)
Smaller 4-channel NVRs discontinued around 2020. Parts limited. Usually we recommend NVR301-04X replacement, with database export of recorded events where retention requirements apply.
OEM-rebadged UNV
Some NYC installs run Uniview hardware under another company's label through OEM programs for mid-size integrators. We identify the real hardware from the internal web interface and service it as Uniview regardless of the badge on the housing.
