NVR not recording? We repair the recorder and recover the footage.
Live view works but nothing is saving, the recorder will not boot, footage disappears before you can review it, or the drive shows errors. We diagnose, repair, and recover footage where the drive is still readable.
Every camera shows on the recorder, but there is no footage when you look back. A failed drive, a write error, or firmware stopping the record process.
Live view, nothing saving
Every camera shows on the recorder, but there is no footage when you look back. A failed drive, a write error, or firmware stopping the record process.
Will not boot
The power light may come on, but it never reaches live view or shows a boot error. A failed power supply, a dead drive or corrupted firmware. Many are repairable without losing footage.
Overwrites too fast
You only see a few days of footage when you expected weeks. The drive is too small, retention is set low, or motion recording is capturing too much.
Drive errors
A multi-drive recorder shows one or two drives as failed or degraded. A clean swap on most systems, with footage usually preserved.
Reboots on its own
The system comes up, works for minutes or hours, then restarts. A weak power supply, overheating or unstable firmware.
Need old footage
The recorder failed and you need what it recorded before, for insurance, a legal matter or an incident. We pull the drive, read it in the lab and recover what is there.
The five common culprits, in the order we check them.
DVRs and NVRs fail for a short list of reasons. We work through them in this order.
Hard drive failure
The most common cause. Surveillance drives run under constant write load and fail over time. It shows up as missing footage, write errors, or a recorder that will not boot. A clean swap in most cases, with footage recovery possible when the drive is still readable.
Power supply failure
The internal power supply has died or is degrading. It causes random reboots, boot failures or complete death. Replaceable with a matched part, with drives and footage preserved.
Firmware corruption
A firmware update went bad, or the recorder runs a version that cloud or app services no longer accept. Reflash with the correct firmware. Common on recorders untouched for years.
Overheating
A failed fan, dust buildup, or a hot closet with no ventilation causes thermal shutdowns and shortens component life. Clean, replace the fan, and relocate where possible.
Configuration drift
Record schedules, motion thresholds or retention settings were changed, on purpose or by accident, and the recorder is working as told, not as expected. We audit the settings and restore them.
The recorder died. Is the footage gone?
Often not. Most DVR and NVR failures are the processor or power supply, not the drive. We pull the drive, read it in a lab setup, and recover the recordings where the file system is intact.
You do not need the original installer.
Most recorder calls are on systems from installers who are no longer around, with no admin password or paperwork. We identify the recorder, recover access, and repair or replace it.
The recorder brands we service
DVRs, NVRs and VMS appliances across the brands common in NYC commercial and residential buildings. Plus unbranded or rebadged recorders from installers who sourced white-label gear.
The storage and drive side
Recorder failures are often drive failures in disguise. We stock surveillance-grade drives in common sizes and swap them in-visit for most recorders. Footage recovery is handled separately in the lab.
Recorders are usually worth repairing.
When we repair
A failed hard drive or power supply in a working recorder is almost always a repair, not a replacement. We swap the part, recover the settings, and the system is back online in the same visit in most cases.
When we recommend replacing
The recorder is a dead model with no firmware updates or parts, it cannot talk to modern cameras or VMS platforms, or you were already planning to move from analog to IP and the money is better spent there. Honest math either way.

Four steps, and we test the full record path before we leave.
Phone triage
No footage, will not boot, failing drives or footage recovery. Five minutes on the phone tells us what parts to bring.
On-site diagnostic
Boot, drive status, record schedule, firmware version and system logs. The first 15 minutes identifies the failure.
Fix, order or lab
Common drives, power supplies and standard recorders are same-visit. Specialty parts get a firm order date. Recovery goes to the lab with a quote.
Verify recording
Every camera recording, retention set correctly, playback and remote view working. Written summary for your records.
