Security camera offline? We trace the fault before we touch the camera.
One camera, or several, shows offline in the recorder, will not load in the app, or just stopped working. It could be PoE, cable, power, firmware or cloud reach. We walk the chain in order and fix the point that broke.
Isolated to that camera, its cable or its PoE port, while the rest of the system is normal. Usually a fast single-point repair.
One camera offline
Isolated to that camera, its cable or its PoE port, while the rest of the system is normal. Usually a fast single-point repair.
Several on one switch
A group of cameras on the same PoE switch or injector dropped at once. Power budget exceeded, a failed switch, or a dead power supply.
Every camera offline
Nothing is reporting and the site is unprotected. The recorder, the main switch or whole-system power. Priority dispatch.
Cycling on and off
The camera comes online, drops and comes back. Classic PoE voltage drop from cable damage, an undersized injector, or heat at the camera.
Cloud offline, local works
You see the camera on site, but the cloud dashboard says disconnected. The ISP, the firewall or the cloud account, not the camera.
After construction
Everything worked until a contractor was on site. A cut cable, a disconnected run, or power to that area switched off.
The six common causes, in the order we check them.
A camera stops reporting for a short list of reasons. We work through them in this order, so you pay for a diagnosis, not a guess.
PoE power failure
The PoE injector or switch port serving the camera has died, lost its uplink, or run out of power budget. Easy to confirm with a meter at the camera end. The most common cause of one camera suddenly going offline.
Cable damage or termination fault
The run to the camera has been cut, crushed, or has a bad termination at either end. Common after construction, renovation, or rodents in a drop ceiling. We trace it, then splice or re-pull the damaged section.
Camera hardware failure
The camera itself has died from weather, lightning, a power surge or plain age. Replacement is cleaner for most consumer and mid-range cameras. Higher-end cameras get bench repair where it pays.
Switch or recorder failure
The PoE switch or the NVR or DVR itself has died. Groups of cameras going offline together point here. Diagnosable in minutes with a laptop at the switch.
Firmware or network configuration
A firmware update went bad, the camera lost its IP address, or a VLAN change cut it off. A configuration repair, no hardware swap needed. Common on cameras that auto-updated after years untouched.
Cloud, ISP or firewall reach
The camera is fine on the local network, but the cloud dashboard or app shows offline. An ISP router swap, a firewall change or an expired certificate. A network-side repair.
The whole system went dark?
When nothing is reporting, the site is unprotected, and that gets priority. It is almost never every camera at once. It is the recorder, the main switch or the power feeding them.
You do not need the original installer.
Most offline-camera calls are on systems installed by companies long gone, often with no admin password. We identify the system, recover access, and fix the camera that stopped reporting.
The camera brands we service
We stock parts and work on every camera line installed across NYC. Plus older unbranded or discontinued cameras in legacy commercial installs.
The recorders and VMS behind them
Analog DVRs, modern NVRs, and cloud VMS platforms including Verkada and Avigilon Alta. Account recovery included where needed.
We replace cameras when repair is not the right call.
When we replace
A dead camera is often cheaper to replace than to repair, especially the mid-range cameras common in NYC commercial installs. We stock current models from the major brands and can match or substitute most legacy cameras.
When repair makes sense
Higher-end cameras from Axis, Avigilon, Bosch and enterprise Hanwha, where the hardware justifies bench repair. PoE and cable faults where the camera is fine. Recorder and switch failures that can be fixed centrally.

Four steps, and the system is restored before we leave.
Phone triage
How many cameras, which ones, when it started, any recent construction or weather. Five minutes narrows the diagnostic.
Walk the chain
Power at the camera, cable continuity, switch port health, recorder status and network path. The first 15 minutes is isolation.
Fix on the spot
Common cameras, PoE injectors and standard switches are same-visit. Specialty models are ordered, with a temporary camera on critical areas where possible.
Verify every camera
Live view, recording, remote view and playback for every affected camera. Written summary for your records.
