Zone audio repair . NYC and tri-state

Speaker zone not working? We trace the signal and fix the dead zone.

One zone of your office or home is silent, the paging cuts out at the loading dock, or one room of your whole-house audio stopped working. We trace the signal from the source to the speaker and fix the break.

ZONE AUDIO · 01 / ONE ZONE SILENT

One zone silent

One room, floor or area has no audio while the rest works. The zone amp output, the speaker wire to that zone, or the routing at the matrix.

FIRST THING WE CHECK
The zone amp output, then the wire to the zone.
ZONE AUDIO · 02 / EVERY ZONE SILENT

Every zone silent

The whole system is dead. The source is not playing, the main amp failed, or the matrix is not routing the input. The whole PA or background music is down.

FIRST THING WE CHECK
The source, then the main amp and matrix input.
ZONE AUDIO · 03 / A FEW SPEAKERS DEAD

A few speakers dead

The zone mostly works, but one or two speakers are silent. A dead speaker, a pulled wire or a failed crossover. An isolated repair.

FIRST THING WE CHECK
The wire at those speakers, then the speakers.
ZONE AUDIO · 04 / CUTS IN AND OUT

Cuts in and out

The zone works on and off. A loose connection, a failing amp, or an amp shutting down from heat. It takes watching to isolate.

FIRST THING WE CHECK
Amp temperature and connections, watched while it fails.
ZONE AUDIO · 05 / DISTORTED OR BUZZING

Distorted or buzzing

The zone plays, but it crackles, buzzes or clips. A grounding problem, an amp failure or the source. A different path from a silent zone.

FIRST THING WE CHECK
Grounding, then the amp and the source.
ZONE AUDIO · 06 / PAGING WORKS, MUSIC DOES NOT

Paging works, music does not

Paging works but the music is dead, or the music works but paging no longer cuts in over it. Matrix routing or the input selector. A settings fix.

FIRST THING WE CHECK
Input routing and paging priority on the matrix.

What silences a zone 05

The five common culprits, in the order we check them.

Zone problems are often a cable or a speaker, not the amp. We walk the chain from the source out.

01

Source problem

The zones are fine but the source feeding them failed: a streaming account, a dead media player or a source selector. Fast to confirm by trying a different source.

Source
02

Matrix or routing settings

The audio matrix or DSP is not sending the source to the zone. A mute left on, the gain turned all the way down, or the wrong source assigned after a change.

MatrixPaging
03

Zone amp failure

The amp for one zone died or lost a channel. Common on systems with a separate amp per zone. A matched amp keeps the rest of the system as it is.

Amp
04

Speaker wire fault

A speaker cable shorted, broke or was cut during construction, and a zone or a few speakers go silent. We trace it and repair it at the fault.

Wire
05

Speaker failure

One speaker died: a burned voice coil, a damaged driver or a failed crossover. A matching speaker keeps the zone's load correct.

Paging down during business

The whole PA went silent?

When every zone goes quiet at once, it is the source, the main amp or the matrix, not the speakers. A priority call for restaurants, retail and warehouses, and we set up a temporary path for paging where we can.

Try a different sourceIf another source plays, the source failed.

Any brand, even if we did not install it

You do not need the original installer.

Most zone audio calls are on systems installed by integrators who are no longer around. We identify the gear, recover admin access, and fix the dead zone.

The brands we service

Commercial and residential distributed audio across the brands common in NYC, plus Bogen PA systems and 1990s matrix switchers still running in many buildings.

The signal chain and speaker side

Zone problems are often a cable or a speaker, not the amp. We test the path from amp to speaker, confirm the speaker is good, and replace parts only after we find the actual fault.

Repair or replace

We fix the fault, not the whole system.

When we repair

A dead zone is almost always one amp channel, one cable or one speaker. We do not replace a working system to fix one zone.

When we recommend replacing

The amp model is dead with no parts, the speaker line is at end of life, or the whole system is moving to Dante or AVB. Then we quote the right-sized replacement with honest cost math.

The repair visit 04

How a zone audio call goes.

Four steps, from the source to the speaker.

01

Phone triage

What is silent, which zones or speakers, when it started, recent changes, and what the matrix shows. Five minutes narrows the layer.

02

Walk the chain

Matrix output, zone amp input and output, speaker wire, speakers. The first 15 minutes isolates the fault.

03

Fix, or part on order

Common zone amps, speakers, cables and connectors are same-visit. For specialty parts we set up a temporary path so paging and critical zones keep working.

04

Test every zone

Every zone in scope plays, source routing works, and paging cuts in over music. Written summary for your records.

Frequent questions 05

Speaker zone FAQ.

Usually, yes. A single-zone outage is that zone's amp output, the speaker wire to it, or the speakers. We walk the chain in order, and the fix is usually one part or one cable repair. Same-visit for most zones.
Yes. Bogen still makes PA amplifiers, and the common zone amps and controllers have good parts availability. We keep 1990s commercial PA running in buildings across NYC, and fit a compatible substitute when a part is truly gone.
Yes. Most zone audio work happens at the equipment closet and in specific zones, not the main dining room. We work during off-hours or quiet times, and for a dead PA during service we work around the operation.
Yes. We fit compatible speakers that match the load, the power rating and, where it matters, the look of the existing ones. For 70V systems and high-power zone amps we match the technical spec exactly.
Same-day across NYC when the schedule allows, with priority for business-critical PA failures in restaurants, retail and warehouses. Call 212-347-5400 for the soonest window.
