Broken intercom handset? We replace any apartment station.
A cracked handset, a station missing after a tenant moved out, a dead speaker, or a button that no longer opens the door. We match the existing system so the rest of the building is not affected, and fit compatible units when the original is discontinued.
The handset was dropped, cracked, or the cord was pulled out. The apartment has no intercom until it is replaced. We match the existing model where parts exist.
Cracked or damaged
The handset was dropped, cracked, or the cord was pulled out. The apartment has no intercom until it is replaced. We match the existing model where parts exist.
Missing after move-out
A tenant took the handset, or it came off during a renovation and never went back. Wires in the wall, no intercom. We install a matching or compatible unit.
No sound from the receiver
The handset is connected, but you hear nothing. The receiver speaker failed, the cord broke inside, or the station's audio board died.
Door button does nothing
You hear the visitor, but pressing the button does not open the door. The release button wore out, or its signal to the strike is broken.
Several apartments failing
Several apartments report the same problem at about the same time. A batch of same-age stations aging out, or a shared power or riser problem hitting the station boards. We rule out the shared cause first.
Old model, no exact match
An older Mircom, a 1990s Aiphone, or an unbranded original. The exact part is not made anymore. We fit a compatible substitute that works on the existing wiring, with no rewire.
The five common culprits, in the order we check them.
Before we replace a handset, we make sure the problem is the handset.
Shared power affecting several stations
When several apartments have station problems at once, it is often a browning-out power supply or a riser issue, not the stations. We rule this out before replacing hardware.
Age and wear
Speakers weaken over decades, cords break inside from flexing, and plastic gets brittle. Most handsets we replace are 20 or more years old.
Physical damage
Dropped, yanked by the cord, hit during a renovation, or vandalized. The station is a small replaceable unit, so we replace it rather than repair it in place.
Lost during move-out or renovation
A tenant takes it, or a contractor removes it and it never goes back. The wiring is usually fine. We put the right new station on it.
Button and contact wear
Talk and release are the most-used buttons, and they wear out. Talk works but release does not, or the other way around, points straight at this.
The wrong handset can damage the building system.
Apartment stations have to match the building's voltage, wiring and system type. The wrong unit will not work, or can damage the system that serves every apartment. Send us a photo and we tell you the right one.
You do not need the original installer.
We identify what is on your wall, source the right station, and get the apartment back on the intercom. Most calls are on older systems, where we fit compatible units that work with the existing building wiring.
The station brands we service
Handsets, wall stations and apartment-side hardware for the common systems across NYC. Where the model is discontinued, we fit a compatible substitute that works on the existing wiring.
The parts that fail in the apartment
The handset, its cord and speaker, and the talk and release buttons. We cover all of the in-unit hardware, including the button that lets your visitor in.
For handsets, replacement is usually the right call.
When we replace
Handsets are inexpensive. When the speaker, button or cord has failed, a new unit is almost always cheaper and faster than repairing one part. We bring matched or compatible stations on the truck.
When we say more
Several stations are failing in the same month because the building system is at end of life, or you want to move to video or app entry. Then replacing single handsets is not the smart spend, and we lay out the trade-offs.

Four steps, and the apartment is tested from the lobby before we leave.
Phone triage
The brand if visible, size, color and number of buttons. Send a photo. Five minutes tells us which station to bring, so we do not make two trips.
Match and install
We confirm the wiring at the apartment, remove the old station, and mount and connect the new one. Most installs take 20 to 30 minutes once we are inside.
Test from the lobby
We ring the apartment from the lobby panel: the call arrives, audio works both ways, the door release fires. Every station in the apartment is tested.
